fire sql on hyperlink click before opening external link

hi,

i have some links which open other sites in a new window/tab and need to track this activity

am wondering how i can fire some sql yet still spawn a new window:

ie i have the html as:

<a href="http://google.com" target="_new">h r mr lala</a>

yet want to run sql on its click and still fire the new open window

any help much appreciated.

You can use AJAX here. You can send value to an AJAX function to send the data to a server page like PHP to track and use JAVASCRIPT window.open() in the function to open a new tab/window.
