gethostbyaddr returns IP

What reasons are there for the following returning the IP address
instead of the hostname?

gethostbyaddr($ _SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'])

The most common reason is that there's no reverse DNS entry for the
IP. The second most commone would be a misconfiguratio n on your end
disallowing lookups.
