Variable of variable

i have a trouble in smarty. i have a variable named $xyz.
i can get value of $xyz like this {$xyz}
now for example value of {$xyz} is abc
now i want to get value of variable abc

very much like $$ in PHP
please help me out

Can't you simply do the conversion when assigning the value to Smarty?

Meaning:

$smarty->assign('xyz', $$xyz);
