How to zip a file on remote server

Hey all,
I am badly stuck in a problem while zip any file on remote server. Is there any option in PHP that i can zip files on remote server through PHP script which execute on same server and zip any file there and if it is possible then how can i do that. Kindly help me out to sort my problem. I will be very grateful and pray for you.
