anybody patient & want a new client?

    hi.

trying to set up a new site with some interactivity between the pages. need
a coder to set up the initial user database where visitors create their
personal accounts. i'm a green do-it-yourselfer as far as web design goes
and definately won't be coding my own php or mysql in this lifetime. i
generate alot of questions too. can pay on a per instance basis for the
project or for answers to questions if you are cool with being a consultant
and if you take paypal. please look over my several prototype pages at
www.vitalkids.org please don't be scared by what you see there. i don't
need a design presentation or content. mostly just somebody to get the
visitor/user database set up for now.

thank you for whatever you might try to do here.

    mike

    Mike,

Looks like you need a CMS more than a consultant. Check out Joomla, for
    instance.

Personally I like Drupal because it's more flexible - but it's also much
harder to install, and it doesn't look like you need that level of
    functionality.

You can also check alt.www.webmasters for other suggestions.

        Jerry,

Thank you. Actually, I have Dreamweaver MX2004 and I think it does manage
php and mysql interactivity. But I am definately not a Dreamwearver power
user and don't have weeks on end to attempt to familiarize myself with an
new CMS right now. But someday when I am under less pressure to get things
done, I may take a look at Drupal as you suggested. But for now, I need to
put my attention on developing content. Design prestentation style, I think
I can handle myself since I don't think I want things too fancy anyway. But
I am going to be needing alot of interactive functionality along the way.
If you know of anyone honest who is good with php & mysql programing, who
can respond and get questions answered and get things done, and who would
work with me, a contact would be very much appreciated. I will check out
        alt.www.webmasters like you suggested.

Thank you for you kind response,
        Mike.

I would certainly go for Joomla 1.0.14 with community builder and
          FacileForms.

Most of what you do is already there. Why invent the wheel again?

P.S. I would say that since I create things like this in Joomla for my
            clients all the time ;-)

It will take you a lot less time to learn a simple cms like Joomla than
it will to try to build it from scratch. And to hire someone to do it
is going to cost you a bunch of bucks to get it done right - it could
easily run into thousands of dollars, depending on how much you want.

Plus it's going to take a lot longer than doing it via a cms. So if
you're in a hurry, that's even more reason.

And DreamWeaver does some of it. But you still need to know both PHP
and SQL to do the job. Otherwise you have no idea if the generated code
is correct or secure (i.e. read up on "sql injection").
