how to receive a xml string from post method

hi,
I send a xml string thru ajax post method. Idont have any idea of how to receive it in the php file and update the places needed.

If i assing it to a variable then i could make it thru _POST[varName]. But i send it as a xml string and would like to receive it as a xml string in php too. any idea of how to make this possible.

Also another doubut. If i need a conformation abt the updates taken plce in the page thru thru responseXML . do i need to use SOAP request or can it be attained without making any changes.

By default, $_POST['varName'] will be a string. To parse it like XML, check out PHP's XML parsing functions.
