Smarty errors - page not displaying - HELP please!

NEWBIE ALERT!!!

Using CMSMadeSimple

When I try to browse my index.php page I get the following errors
(this is just a sample - there are another 7 in the same format.

string(102) "Smarty error: [in template:5 line 5]: [plugin] unknown
tag - 'title' (core.load_plug ins.php, line 123)" string(111) "Smarty
error: [in template:5 line 7]: [plugin] unknown tag -
'global_content ' (core.load_plug ins.php, line 123)"

I don't know any PHP - I've been landed with attempting to move this
web site on the cab rank principle (I had less to do than my
colleagues) but I think once it's set up I can safely forget
everything.

All help gratefully received etc.

Panic over. The wretched company hosting the site had given me an
incorrect path for the root. Once amended, it worked a treat.
