php 4.3.6 with curl and apache 1.3.26

Hello everybody, need a little hint:
trying to compile php + apache (as statically linked to apache).
Everything is ok, until I try to add support for curl (tried 4 different
versions).
httpd writes core dumped :-(
Any ideas?
System is RH 7.2
