Newbie problem with Title of main page

I have two or three web-sites which were set up by a programmer who I cannot contact. I scrubbed the content out of one, and made some changes.

I have the sneaky feeling there is some kind of superadmin status needed to change the title of the page, and I have been unable to uncover this.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

O/S is Windows XP

If you have the source code of the website(s), then you can change anything you want, including the title. Do you have the code?
