    can i check if remote mms-stream exists?

    Hi all,

    I want to check if a remote mms:// stream exists. Just if it exists: not even use it.

    i cant get it to work so far with php socket/fopen/exists......

    this one exists:
    mms://streams3.omroep .nl/tv/vara/najiblooptwarm/bb.20060603.asf

    this one doesnt:
    mms://streams3.omroep .nl/tv/vara/najiblooptwarm/bb.20060602.asf

    Why doesnt it work?

    Thanks for ANY help so far!!!! I'm really desperate!
    p.s. needs to run on unix server.
    p.s. other languages (if not possible with php) no problem.

      Simply, because the mms protocol isn't supported by PHP. It's not available
      as a wrapper, nor as a transport.

      The mms protocol is typically handled by tcp/udp transports through port
      7511. Having said this, you only know how to connect to such a service, but
      not how to communicate to it.

      For this, you will have to know how the protocol works and since this is a
      propriatary procotol, you will have to back-engineer it. Luckilly, some
      people already got busy with it, so a search on the web should come up with
      some useful resources.

      You can also use one of the many command line tools available and invoke
      them from your script through one of PHP's system functions.

          wow, you seem to know your business well ;-) !
          the problem is that i'm not an expert at all at this,
          and i need this in order to complete a VERY nice
          script for a community!
          Can you help me a bit further please?

          I just need to know whether it exists.....

              Oh, once more Janwillem :-),
              what did you also mean by this: (im not familiar with linux, but i have a redhat
              dedicated server at my hosting company that i have root access to, so in case....):
