    Which installer is better?

XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is really very easy to install and to use -
    just download, extract and start.

WinLAMP is an installer for Apache, MySQL, and PHP.

    WinLAMP is about 60 mgb
    XAMPP is about 30 mgb
That's all I know about them.

Which is easiest to install and use??
All I need is apache server, php and mySql.

      WinLAMP?
Stop me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the 'L' in LAMP stand for 'Linux' ?

Then the people behind the WinLAMP project must be half-baked in naming
their product. The common abbreviations in this context are:

LAMP = Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP
WAMP = Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP

            Thanks Kim, I knew I wasn't crazy!
WinLAMP needs to re-name their project. Maybe someone should tell them
that their product is called "Windows Linux Apache MySQL and PHP" :-)

Maybe I'm asking the wrong question.
For some reason I was under the impression that these were two popular installers and I'd get some insightful feedback.

Seeing as that doesn't seem to be the case, is there another installer that 's known to be easy (as pie ) to configure, get up and
running, and has easy to use, dependable features.

I recommend XAMPP to newer PHP developers. I find it easy to use, and
it sets everything up for you. It is truly no hassle.

However, you should just install PHP and Apache on their own. It's not
that hard, and it works quite fine for me. Do a Google search for a
                tutorial.

If you want something that really does what it means, you can try out
                  WampServer. http://www.wampserver.com.

the solution is crystal clear to me, just remove the l

WinLAMP stands for "WinLAMP Is Not LAMP" (You've gotta love acronyms
                      that are self-inclusive...)

I've used both products and I found that the way Winlamp sets things up
is a little neater than XAMPP, but XAMPP offers additional features
(see the list on their site).

Personally I'd go for WinLAMP but really there isn't that much
                      separating them.
