This doesn't answer your question but I honestly DON'T want it to be
released. I just got PHP down finally for god's sakes... and then they'll
hit me with MORE functions? Jeez...

They arn't adding many new functions. Just a whole bunch of funky

There are no mandatory new functions in PHP 5 (all my PHP 4 scripts work
flawlessly with the beta). You can learn them as you need to, and
marvel at the new speed, power and flexibility of the language in the
meantime.

The usual release date is: "When it's ready" :-)
They're in beta stage so it's probably sometime next year, but being more
specific probably isn't possible.
