PHP auction site tutorial?

Anyone know where I can get tutorials, or find resources on creating
php-based auction sites?

There seem to be quite a few commercial versions, but nobody to explain the
theory/how-it-works. :-(

Most of the time when its something proprietary like an auction script
you have to ask yourself how you would do it. I know of no tutorials but
if you run into a problem just post it and perhaps some people can help you.
