I can't find an explanation of the "@" modifier(?) in PHP. Please explain

I have been using mysql for a little while, but I ran across some code that
    had this format:

    $connection=@my sql_connect(bla h, blah....)

    I have always used:

    $connection=mys ql_connect(blah , blah...)

What is the significance of the '@' ....and why?

    TIA,

    Larry Woods

It's in the manual under Operators - Error Control Operators.

    It suppresses error messages.

    Integrity is obvious.
The lack of it is common.

      Thanks, Chuck,

I just couldn't figure out what the search string should look like for the
      "at-sign".

A catch .22 case of needing to knoe the answer before being able to ask
the question. You'll see a lot of those around here.
