    Newsgroup FAQs?

    Hi,

Just wondering where the FAQs for this newsgroup are?

Also, what is the difference between comp.lang.php, alt.php,
alt.comp.lang.p hp? Is there an official newsgroup for PHP discussion?

    Thanks

    Michael

There were some attempts to get one together but I don't know if it's actually
    got anywhere.

comp.lang.php is the official newsgroup, being in the "comp" hierarchy, which
is one of the "Big 8" official hierarchies.

The others in alt.* were created before comp.lang.php was created.

We ought to have a wiki. But I don't think anyone has enough time.

So what PHP groups do you subscribe to?

I've been using PHP for years, and I'm looking to help people out, and
possibly learn a thing or two at the same time...

        Thanks for the reply.

          alt.php, alt.php.sql, alt.comp.lang.p hp, comp.lang.php.

At this time, wiki wouldn't be a big problem. But, as phpSt.Chung
Leong said, for digging over the questions and answers, c.l.php would
be the better place. Also, we started compiling them. Anyone can
contribute to the FAQ. The FAQ entry has to be flagged with [FAQ] in
subject line; my humble suggestion is to use the flag symbol as |FAQ|
instead of [FAQ] as GG2Stupid (tm) hides it (many started using GG2,
            IMHO)

If regulars could add a FAQ entry instead of replying repeated
queries, we may quickly compile it. Also, we may work towards a printed
book version, if the FAQ contributors are interested in; I'm quite
positive about the printed version as there is no such work available
            yet, AFAIK.

For the previous FAQ entries, one (especially OP) may check
            <http://groups.google.c om/groups?q=FAQ+gr oup:comp.lang.p hp&scoring=d>
