    DBFlash for Oracle - looking for beta testers (modified post)

    Well, it turns out that Google automagically mangled email addresses
    in the last try, so here goes again.

    Confio Software, a Boulder-based system performance tools developer,
    is preparing to announce our new DBFlash(TM) for Oracle version 4.6;
    we need beta testers before our upcoming release, so we are looking
    for a limited number of new sites interested in trying our new
    version.

    Qualifying sites should have:

    - a significant number of Oracle-based applications in production
    - seasoned Oracle DBAs interested in exploring the performance of
    their internal or commercial applications
    - willingness to spend several hours trying DBFlash for Oracle 4.6

    What you get:

    - Complimentary access to a tool that identifies root causes of
    Oracle performance bottlenecks
    - Deep visibility into how your applications impact the database
    - Identification of problem SQLs and the wait time they impose on
    users, sessions and programs

    If interested, please send the following information to
    beta-AT-confio-DOT-com or reply to author on this message.

    Name
    Title
    Company
    Mailing Address
    telephone number
    e-mail address
    number of Oracle licenses

    Looking forward to hearing from you.

    You would make a LOT more friends if you would restrict this kind of request
    to the comp.database.o racle.marketpla ce forum - which is the only one you
    have ignored.

    The majority of the regular contributors to the comp.database.o racle.*
    newsgroups have, over a fairly significant time, requested that such ads be
    placed into cdo.marketplace - even for beta tests. Therefore, if you want
    our support and feedback you might want to work with the wishes of for the
    community you are apparently trying to attract.

    <rant>
    Many of us consider this advertising and spam. I don't see how this is
    relevant to a discussion of the topic at hand (Oracle, Oracle tools, etc.),
    since all you are trying to do is improve YOUR product (free or otherwise)
    and not contributing to the general knowledge base of the Oracle product.
    </rant>

    Of course, if all you want is a flame war, please continue ...

    /Hans

      Sorry for the confusion, the .marketplace charter says it's for:

      * jobs available
      * positions wanted
      * services offered
      * software or hardware wanted or available for sale
      * books and other literature available
      * announcements of new products

      and since this was an announcement that we were looking for people to get
      our software for free if they'd test it, which is none of jobs, services,
      positions, books, software available for sale, books or other literature,
      nor an announcement of a new product -- that'll come after we find the
      beta testers we need -- it didn't seem appropriate.

      However, I'll happily post to .marketplace, and beg your indulgence for my
      mistaken reading of the charters.
      Of course, if all you want is a flame war, please continue ...
      Thanks for the offer, but I've got plenty.

      (PS. Thanks to the ORacle FAQ .org people for providing webreader access;
      this is ever so much better than Google Groups.)

        My apologies. The charter for .marketplace
        (http://www.orafaq.com/usenet/charter4.htm) says:

        * books and other literature available
        * announcements of new products

        and since I'm looking for people willing to try a tool, not looking for a
        job, announcing a position, offering a service, selling software (we've
        got marketing weenies for that), selling a book, or annoucing a new
        product (it's not ready yet, that's why I'm looking for beta testers),
        c.d.o.marketpla ce didn't seem appropriate.

        That'll teach me to read the documentation.

              Google was trying to do you a favor because we do not appreicate
              spammers. And you were inconsiderate not to read the charter and
              rude to spam us so you have done damage to your company and little
              else.

              I would suggest you immmediately post an apology for your indiscretion
              and repost your request at comp.databases. oracle.marketpl ace where it
              belongs.

              Thank you.

                  I just hope this is not an OMLET's brother. It is hard to survive even
                  a single OMLET, two of them would be unbearable.

                    One wonders who writes your documentation. I looked at your RMM white
                    paper, and it seems to have been written by someone who assumes DBA's
                    don't know about modern versions of OEM (not to mention other tools).
                    Statements like "For
                    example, if the I/O operations for a particular SQL statement are
                    visible, but the latch information is missing, it is impossible to
                    tell how much time, if any, is being spent on any of the 200+ latches.
                    As a result, most DBAs tune the visible resources and then simply say
                    that the SQL is "tuned"" are troubling, as it is a simple matter to
                    look at any or all latches on pretty graphs, top sql statements, etc.,
                    and drill down in to an exact problem. Your quantification example
                    doesn't seem to take into account effects propagated to resources of
                    other sessions.

                    So what added value does your product have? Why is RMM better than
                    Milsap, Lawson, or even Oracle's methodologies?

                    BTW, you should have googled and lurked in the group before posting to
                    see the previous discussions about the charter, as is true of any
                    group.

                      doesn't need amended since it says what you want to say already. The
                      list is not exhaustive and was never intended to be so.

                        He _has_ learned and duly apologized.

                        My statement is based on the apparent ambiguity of the charter and/or the
                        inabilty of some people to understand. We have had *way* to much
                        misinterpretati on lately.

                        My belief is that avoidable misinterpretati on will continue until we make
                        the change, or at least provide a clarification in publically accesible
                        forums such as orafaq.com (Deliberate misinterpretati on, people who wish
                        to demonstrate their ignorance and nutcases who grovel in raw egg will
                        always be a problem as long as the internet provides anonymity.)

                        Time to kill this thread, or at least move it to cdo.misc?
