    Oracle 9i/9iAS co-existense question

    Hello,
I was hoping to get some advice.
I've been asked to set up a proof of concept type install of Oracle 9i and
    9i A/S.
Can I install A/S and 9i database server on one box or do I ~have~ to use 2
    seperate boxes?

Yes, they can be installed on the same physical box (at least on UNIX)
as long as they are in separate ORACLE_HOMEs.

      Thanks.
      Thanks for the clear answer.

I had them installed on the same W2K box working quite happily. (If
you use iFS there can be version issues, but I do not think this is a
        "one box" issue.)

I then realised that I did not actually need the database installed
separately, so I now just use the DB which is part of the AS
installation. This means much better use of memory and CPU resources
and is quite permitted according to the terms of my license agreement.

The database installed with 9iAS is for the 9iAS repository. It really
shouldn't be treated as a typical Oracle installation as we know it,
that is installed via the Oracle9i database CDs, because of the
requirements and restrictions that 9iAS has on it.

          It does work, though...

          Cheers...
