CRM or ERP: Which Is Better for Managing Customer Data, Sales Tracking, and Internal Operations?

We're currently reviewing our business processes because managing customer information, sales follow-ups, quotations, invoices, and internal operations across multiple spreadsheets is becoming difficult.

Some of the challenges we're facing include:
    • Customer details stored in different places
    • Missed follow-ups and sales opportunities
    • Difficulty tracking leads through the sales pipeline
    • Manual invoice and order management
    • Limited visibility into team performance and workflows
    • Data duplication between departments

While researching solutions, we came across both CRM and ERP systems, but it's not entirely clear which approach makes more sense.

    From what I understand:
    • CRM software seems focused on customer relationships, lead management, sales tracking, and communication.
    • ERP software appears to cover broader business operations such as inventory, finance, procurement, HR, and workflow management.

For organizations that primarily struggle with customer management, sales processes, and keeping business data organized, would implementing a CRM be sufficient?

Or is it better to invest in an ERP platform from the beginning to avoid future migration and integration challenges?

I'm interested in hearing from business owners, operations managers, and IT professionals who have gone through this decision.
