To Redeploy or not to redeploy

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me out. I am doing a favor for my friedns dad's company by upgrading parts of his companies IT Infrastructure. We have a single CPU Dell file server which is running the DNS/DHCP/Print Server services etc. It was working with a Netgear 854G router with 3 Desktop workstaions and a Laptop on WIFI. However all the pc's had unrestricted access to the web directly through the router.

We have recently had a brand new phone and ADSL Gateway system fitted as well as an independent switch. I changed the IP setting so that the DNS is handled by the Server and that diverts traffic to the ADSL Gateway making security issues much less likely. However since doing this the web browsing speed has been severely affected. Its so slow it takes about 30-45 seconds to get google up. I don't think its the acual ADSL speed as once the page starts to load it is very quick and downloads are quick aswell.

Unfortunately I did not install the network originally so I'm not 100% sure I did everything correctly. Would I be best to nbite the bullett and spend a few hours reinstalling Windows Server 2003 STD Edn and starting a fresh or does someone have the (no doubt) simple answer to what I have done wrong.

My friends dad is ok with everything as we still have a lot to do with the project but is a little miffed that he has towait over a minute to load a website.

Any help would be much appreciated

The IP setting are as follows:

    ADSL Gateway: 192.168.2.254 DHCP Disabled
HP ProCurve 1810G Switch: 192.168.2.10 DHCP Mode disabled
Server: 192.168.2.11 DHCP Enabled, DNS Enabled
    Primary DNS Server: 192.168.2.11
    Secondary DNS Server: NOT SET
    DHCP Range 192.168.2.100 - 192.168.2.200

The ADSL Gateway stated two other external DNS addresses as a normal router would. Should I have used the router as the Secondary DNS Server?

    Thanks in advance guys

Is the lag when traversing to internal or external sites?

If it's with internal, a quick fix-it for a small company would be to add entries into the hosts file in windows (C:\WINDOWS\sys tem32\drivers\e tc) so anything local is resolved on the immediate device, though in such a small network I'm not sure how concerned I would be of DNS security issues - I would imagine spyware and viruses would be more immediate threats.

All internal traffic is working fine, it's when you start to use the WWW that things start to get tedious. Once the site has been found etc it loads very quickly it justs seems to take an age to find out the address.

By the for the servers Network settings I set the DNS addresses as follows

      Primary DNS Server: 192.168.2.11
      Secondary DNS Server: 192.168.2.254

Should I have set these to the DNS addresses listed on my ADSL Gateway config page?
