Copying software between networks

I have a desktop and a inspiron mini that are networked. I am trying to download/save/copy a program from the desktop to the mini. The mini does not have a CD/DVD drive. For other things I have been able to put the cd in the desktop and save it in the downloads file and retreived it from the mini and copy/past. When I try and do it with the particullar file, it keeps coming up with a error message or program file not responding message.
Any help would be great!

Do you have static IPs set? If so, can you ping the other box?
