How to implement software updates over the internet

Hello, I would like to know how to update a windows applikation over the internet. The idea is when i code a new version of a program then i can "upload" it to my clients.

Another way is to have the client's program check at the background, meaning asynchronously if there is a new version on the server and to let them upload the new version.

Help and ideas will be appriciated.

Not sure how you will "upload" it to your clients.
I've never done this before, but if I were you I would look into using a web service that will host updates...your applications can connect to the web service to check for updates.

        vstud70,

Deploy you application with CLICKONCE. When you release a version it automatically get the version info, download and install this new version ... and you dont have to worry about it anymore... Pretty nice solution and very easy to setup.

You can upload an xml file having details(version string) regarding latest version of your application.
To check for an update, you can download that xml file and check version in that xml file with current application version.
If new version is available, inform user to download latest version.
