How to test for Multiple Users ?

Hi,
i need to test an Application for multiple users.
I don't have LoadRunner. as of now, i'm testing by hitting
multiple browsers with same url at the same time.
i want to know whether this approach will give same effect
so as to test the Application for multiple users
