ConnectionPooling

Actually why do we go for connection polling ? Is that we go for ConnectionPooli ng for using multiple database like sql,oracle,msac cess or do we go for that to set the max number of connections that has to be established at a time? or is there any other reason to go for connection pooling?
Any sites that deal with connpooling giving full details about it would be highly appreciated.

Connection pooling
- becoz connection creation is consider an expensive process, therefore the pooling mechanism is try to recycle the opened connection for next db call.
