gmonthday mapping wrong ??

I have generated a webservice server interface from a WSDL document that was
provided to me
in this WSDL there is a property defined as gMonthDay datatype ,

i would have expected that this would be mapped to a datetime variabel ,
however it is mapped to a string datatype

I base my findings on this document

anyone experience with this ?
