Why does this sp only return an integer

Hi am using vs2008 writing asp.net.vb app. My stored proc should return a single name, well in theory at least

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[getusername]
	
	(
	@email varchar ,
@retvalue nvarchar (10)output
	)
	
AS
	
 /*SET NOCOUNT ON */
  	

	
	 SELECT        myemailaddress
	 FROM            newtable
	 WHERE        (myemailaddress = @email)

can someone please explaoin what I need to do to get it to return the single name that I want.

You have done sp with single column and where condition meet it will return only that record.
