    Why did MySQL stops working once the port value is changed in my.cnf?

    works fine:
    [client]
    port = 3306
    [mysqld]
    port = 3306

    but once changed to:
    [client]
    port = 3307
    [mysqld]
    port = 3307

    I get the following error:
    ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

    by the way, I've added the port 3307 to the firewall's exceptions list.
    any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Can you show the configuration files for both the client and the server?

      Did you restart the server after changing the port?
      Did you provide the new port 3307 while connecting to it?
