focus on onfocus

hi,
I have made the screen in which there are number of textboxes. onclick of these fields,they get converted into dropdowns.
onfocus they get converted into dropdowns but focus doesnt remain on that field.
why is it so???
can anybody help me?????

the conversion will probably modify the DOM by replacing some nodes? in this case the original nodes disapear? in that case you have to ensure the refocussing after that 'conversion'. it would help to see an example to give more specific hints ... so if it is unclear ... then please post a relevant example code snippet ...
