Results from ajax request sent to frame fail in firefox. Browser crashes.

I have a web page with two frames - frame 1 is an html page with two forms, frame 2 is a pdf. Each form submits data to a different action and receives an answer using Ajax, which updates the html in frame 1 and puts a new pdf in frame 2 (javascript: parent.frames['frame2'].location.href) . This all used to work fine in all browsers tested. Now, it works fine in IE and Opera, but not in Firefox. In FF, it loads the first page and frames fine, I can search and get both frames updated. But after the pdf update, frame 1 becomes unresponsive and sometimes FF crashes. Any idea if this is an error in my application, Firefox, Acrobat? I haven't been having any luck trying to fix it or find additional info.

This is not a Java question. I'm moving it to the Misc. forum.
