Excel data in opening in same window in IE6

Hi All,

iam using IE 6 with SP2 patch.
when am tryig to open text(spreadshee t format data) it is opening in same window.
expected behaviour is it should ask for open or save option once iclick open should open in new window and show the data. but it is opening in same window.
in Mozilla it works fine and IE 7 also fine but not in IE6...
plz provide me solution

it's a user preference.

Javascript alone cannot do this.
you will have to re-serve it under a different mime-type.
an unknown x-application should work.
