Script needed for the valid phone number

Hi every one,
I need help from u people
my problem is
i have phone number field
i need the perfect script for that field
that field should enter only valid phone numbers
i mean if we enter digits which are not in the series of phone numbers
then it should display the error message
can any one
please suggest me towards the solution?
