Check whether the user enterd values is blank or not

I'm writing web application using jsp. I want to check user entered values is blank or not. This is my code and I got and error saying ".eqls on incompatibletyp es()" . Anyone please help me..

 if ((Integer.getInteger(formbean.getSerial_no()).equals("")){

}

[jkmyoung]

formbean.getSer ial_no()).equal s("")
This is true or false.
You can't make an integer out of it.
