So ya... I'd like to write a simple program in Java for scheduled wake-on-lan and shutdown over lan of any lan-enabled computer, regardless of O/S. School systems and library systems really need this a lot; the potential for energy conservation is incredible. Alas, I am taking my first Java class and admittedly am not ready to tackle this task alone... Oh yeah and the Educational Technology guys in my county (Broward, South Florida) have agreed to handle the distribution throughout our county... From there who knows how far this can go, maybe to the whole U.S.
I don't want to sell this or anything, I'm just an eleventh-grader who has an idea and wants to make a difference. Any suggestions, questions, or comments are greatly appreciated. Again information on the feasibility of writing this in Java is appreciated too, just thought it would be good to have a cross-platform program that could handle scheduled shut-down (I know wake-on-lan is possible in Java already). Thanks in advance guys and if you are interested in getting really involved in the coding just know that every contribution will be duly noted and credit will be given.
-Thanks again fellow programmers,
Taylor Cole
