    IIS 6.0 not allowing SSL

long story short, I'm running II6 on a server and trying to host a test WCF service to test out running a production service over SSL only.

Originally had the test service working with a client and server test certificate made with makecert. But the client for some reason would not accept the server certificate, so I figured the issue is that the name of the cert isn't the same as the domain address, which I read might be the problem, so I created a new server certificate with CN=xx.xx.xx.xxx etc. Removed the server certificate that was on there, installed this one, and since then I cannot get the site to work again over SSL, (it will work over http with basicHttpBindin g) but not with wsHttp or basic over SSL. I tried removing the new certificate and placing back the one before, and this did not fix the issue.

    - Restarted IIS multiple times

    - Decided to uninstall then reinstall IIS

    - Uninstalled .NET framework 3.0 and 3.5 SP1

    - Ran these commands that I found searching for the same problem:

    - "%WINDIR%\Micro soft.Net\Framew ork\v3.0\Window s Communication Foundation\Serv iceModelReg.exe -r (and the -i command)

    - used the microsoft uninstall tool for V3.0 .net here :
    http://social.msdn.mic rosoft.com/Forums/en-US/wcf/thread/127db304-eb4d-40b4-81f6-483d92b1b6e1

    - used the CleanIISScriptM aps.exe tool here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/wenlong/archive/2006/09/10/748294.aspx

    - found this, but when I go to the windows/system32 and run this command, can't find the adu...exe file http://www.microsoft.c om/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer20 03/Library/IIS/8d9f2a8f-cd23-448c-b2c7-f4e87b9e2d2c.ms px?mfr=true

I've about just lost hope in getting this to work again.

    Please help.

    thanks.

    resolved:

issue is the .pfx has to also be imported into the personal folder of the certificate store along with the corresponding .cer file, if the certificate when viewed does not say "A private key corresponds to this certificate" then the .pfx is missing.
