    is my problem in the css or the widget?? or both!!

    hi there. just joined up after perusing the the howto's....
    i have a page that's using a spry sliding panels widget. works just
    fine in ie7 & firefox but... ie6 seems to be pushing the panels out of
    their container to the bottom of the page (it should be in the center
    where the image is). i've tried all kinds of things and at this point
    could really use some help. Anyone out there willing to take a look?

    i've tried to validate it but some of the errors are within the sliding panels id's and am unsure after getting it to this point whether to start messing around with re-assigning divs, etc. -- also, any insight about whether the problem is with the doctype? i've built the site in strict 4.01

    i'd be extremely grateful for any advice or help out there!!

      The doctype is fine but you are declaring HTML and trying to use XHTML components. You're <html> tag is trying to include a xhtml namespace so that won't happen. And some of your tags end with the XHTML end tag />.

      Remove the slashes on the end tags, shorten the html tag to just <html>.

      Finally, id's are to be unique identifiers for one element on a page. This might not affect you here but it could in other instances. You may be able to just change the ids to classes and be OK (change your css for that, too).

      The problems itself will have to wait till later (for me).

          hi - thanks for the reply, i really appreciate it! i've changed it to html transitional and cleaned up some of the code. i made a new page and tried taking out the id's. i understand about unique identifiers but i guess, when creating the sliding panels, i was working from an online example? not sure at this point cause my eyes are crossing.

          so now i have 2 pages...
          1. http://www.marshall-legacy.org/!news_and_event s/22.html (the one i have only just made transitional and cleaned up a bit)

          2. http://www.marshall-legacy.org/!news_and_event s/23.html (the one i removed the repeating identifiers and now the widget is a bit funky when i click a number link more than once and number 8 doesn't do the fancy effect it did on the first page --- and the right sidebar has vanished!)

          anyone out there have an idea of what's going on? clash of css and spry?!

              Why did you do that? There is no need for the transitional doctype in new web pages.

              Remove this from your html:
              <div id="clearleft" > </div>
              It's totally unnecessary garbage.

              Don't know what spry is but I see it's something from Adobe.

                  The multiple click problem is a javascript problem but you should ask about that on the javascript board.

                      i guess i'm all around confused and since the error on w3c said to change it to transitional, i did. so i changed it back, got rid of the div clear and am now at this point:

                      BTW - i'm using adobes sliding panels spry widget in dreamweaver cs3.
                      still can't figure out how to position the numbered links without using a fixed positioning which is what could be throwing it off in ie6.
