Although many of these server run Linux or BSD, I don't think the Linux / Unix / BSD Forum is the right place for your question. So I'm moving this to the Misc section.

Well, a webserver doesn't have to be a powerful machine unless you will be getting a significant amount of traffic.

As to nameservers and DNS, you can buy your domains from places like GoDaddy or other sites and use their DNS control panels to point at your IP. Which by the way, must be static.

So you will have to get a static IP address, which usually means paying for a business-class connection from your ISP.

What I have done is use dyndns so I don't need nameservers or a static IP, but there are limitations.

      Hope that helps.
