    .DOC vs .TXT

I have a file saved as .doc When I send that out via email as an attachment, some users can't open the attachment (some can and some can't). Can I resolve this on my end somehow? If I sent the file in .txt format, would that solve the problem?

    Thanks for your help!!

Users who don't have MS Word or OpenOffice installed can't read .doc files.
Almost everyone has Notepad or Wordpad so they will be able to read .txt files (create using Save As from the File menu).

I have WordPerfect 12, which can open .doc files. Is this part of Open Office?

Nope. (I didn't reallize WP had Word capabilies).
OpenOffice.org is free from Sun. It has all the freatures of MS Office and can read and save in MS format. The guys at Sun must just smile every time somebody registers another copy!
