Hey, I am an IT student (Network Systems Administrator).
My friends and I play PC games all the time (c'mon I said I was in IT!) and our choice of (instead of messing with Ventrilo and ever since Skype got annoying) voice chat software is Dolby Axon (laugh if you want but its awesome).
The problem is, there is no way to send a message to a friend (who could be in the middle of an import scrimmage) without inviting them to a text chat, which would exit their game briefly.
In the past I have created my own (using OpenVPN and a script [OpenSSH or something, on Windows]) remote assistance where my friend would text me and say I need help (or I would leave my server running in my toolbar), I would open my server and my friend would open the client exe I customized and then click "REQUEST HELP FROM EVAN!"
To which it would pop open a bubble asking me if I would to accept and what passphrase he chose (the tutorial that helped me make this had that as an option so I did it) and he would text me the passphrase and boom I have access to their computer. They trusted me completely (no one has a reason not to) and if I started deleting stuff my friend could just close out of the client and disconnect me).
I have since lost this software but I could make it again really easily using a tutorial (I'm a networking guy, so all the ports and such make sense to me but not the programming).
Now I would like to kindly ask, is there a similar tutorial/script/package that could allow me to do that with a simple chat room? Basically I wouldn't really need a VPN because if you don't have the program you won't be able to get in (I'd have some security running maybe just a whitelist or just use a VPN? I plan on running that chat server on one of my extra computers once I get Linux off of it. It can be jar or exe for them to run, they trust me.
I will add credit to the author of said package or script in the main chat window, along with whoever finds it for me haha.
