    When retrieving the data from DB2 through Excel do we need to catalog the databases.

    I am currently using ODBC DSN less connection to connect.

      Cataloging databases on the client side is only used for db2 tools, like "db2 load", so no, odbc should be able to connect and retrieve data without a full db2 client setup. The dbms side needs to have the comm protocol setup, for example
      Code:
      db2set DB2COMM=tcpip
      and the dbm cfg needs SVCENAME setup with the value matching a port in /etc/services
      TCP/IP Service name (SVCENAME) = db2c052
