unable to apply XML Extender to DB2 database

I am running DB2 v9.5

When i run the following command:

> dxxadm enable_db SAMPLE

I get the following:

DXXA002I Connecting to database SAMPLE.
DXXA005I Enabling database SAMPLE. Please wait.
DXXA073E The database is not bound. Please bind the database before enabling it..

any assistance would be great... Thanks!
