Difference in rate of data transfer in USB ports

I tried to copy a 3 GB data from hard drive to memory card on a card reader. Initially i tried to copy by connecting the card reader to USB port in the front side of the cabinet. It showed me the timing of close to one hr to copy.
But when i did the same by connecting it to the USB port at the back it took only 12 mins.
Why is it so? What is the diff between the USB ports connected to back and front side of the cabinet.

    Processor : Intel core 2 Duo E7400
    OS : Win 7
    M/B Intel G41 RQ chipset
    RAM : 4GB DDR2 SD-RAM

Maybe you have a USB 3.0 in the back and a 2.0 in front.

Sometimes problems can be fixed by connecting properly the USB device with care. Sometimes, one USB port can deliver higher voltage/current than another USB port. IRQ mapping may also result in detection problem. Usually front and back USB port have no difference. The use of an adaptor cable can amplify a compatibility issue. For best performance and stability, use an adaptor that connect directly to the PCI or PCI-E slot. The USB ports are often located on the front or back of your PC, or on a USB hub.
