Hey guys,
Here's my situation:
I graduated with an MIS degree from a prestigious university. Honestly I did not apply myself for the first three years and, as a result, am not well versed in programming. I did get a good business background.
I am most interested in some type of software development but do not have anywhere close to the technical skills for an entry position. I own a small business and know what it's like to hire someone who says they know what they are doing and then they don't. It's extremely frustrating. I don't want to do this to a future employer. I'd prefer to be well-versed in programming.
There is an excellent technical college here which offers a 3-year computer science degree and covers most of the programming languages. They boast a 90% job placement rate.
My options seem to be:
1) test out the workforce while self-teaching myself programming
2) get the technical degree
Any advice from you guys who have experience with hiring, or your own path in your career would be a huge help!
Thanks!
