    [semi ot] thanks message

    Guys,
are posts such as "thanks for your reply, it has answered my questions,
now I understand" welcome on c.l.c. or do you generally don't care about
them and you feel they just decrease information/ot-stuff ratio?

    Thanks for your reply. ;)

    I'm not bothered either way.

Since I am human I don't mind positive feedback, it's actually
the other way round, and neither do I mind other people getting
      a (often well-earned) friendly "thank-you" reply. I don't see
any harm in such replies to the S/N ratio, there are enough
other kinds of replies that easily drown any effect of those.
Only if all people that asked a question would start sending
a "thank-you" message for each and every answer they got things
might look differently, but I guess there's not much danger
      of that happening;-)
      Regards, Jens

One of my pet peeves is posters who ask a question, triggering a
lengthy discussion (often consistent largely of requests for
clarification) and never respond. So a "thank you" posting is, in
that sense, kind of an anti-peeve.

If you want to post a "thank you", I'd suggest posting it as a
followup either to one of the helpful followups or perhaps to the
original message; either way, please quote enough context to remind us
what the discussion was about (the subject header may not be enough
for that). Mentioning what approach you finally decided to take, or
some other information about how (and whether) the problem was
        resolved, is useful feedback.

Also, if you want to thank several people, it is best to do it all in
one message rather than posting individual replies to each person you
          want to thank.

Personally I think it is nice to see the occasional post thanking people.

I think that letting the group know that the question or problem has
been resolved is a good idea.
