Server response time from a php file is too high

I am writing a parser, which grabs info. The problem is every time when i do a HttpWebRequest (c#) it takes 14 seconds to load. Approximately 10 seconds for response and 4 seconds is the downloading time (my inet connection is slow 512/kbs).

In my case the server is not to be blame for because it responses fast to other normal requests. The request which takes up too long is an ajax call in the site. So all in all some php file is responsing very slow.

Is there any way to trick this, i mean can i somehow reduce the response time. BTW here is site offgamers.com. And forgot to say that the slow request returns xml dataType

Will appreciate any help.
