        Some browsers may not be able to handle .gif files (IE6 for example). Consider converting this image into a .jpg instead (you will lose any transparency in the image if you do)

            Try using CSS debugging tools to help you figure out what is going on.

            If the image is strange in FireFox, download FireBug (an addon for FireFox which is a tool for debugging CSS and JavaScript).

            If the image is strange in IE then you can try using the built in tools that come with IE8 (these tools work even if you are running in "IE-7 mode").

            Other browsers come with their own tools.

            These tools let you modify the CSS to change so that you can determine what you need to do to change the CSS to get the desired look.

              just try this way to give image path in background..

              background-image: url(../image/slam-book.gif);

              u can change all image url on that pages like above examples..

                What browsers don't support GIF? I think IE6 just has problems with transparencies in gifs.

                There are some legal reasons not to use GIF. Mainly some compression algorithm in GIF is proprietary. Because of that PNG was created. For simple pictures you should prefer PNG or GIF.

                Like Frinny said these is probably some kind of browser specific issue and you need to create css that targets whatever browsers seperately or modify the markup so it looks ok in all browsers.

                A site I used to read a lot when I did web development stuff back in the day was quirksmode.
