Problem with the results on an .asp page

I am having a tinker with an .asp application and I have a bit of an irritant

Basically everything works fine where the data extracted from the database is plain text

When it comes to those fields where there’s a lookup field within the table all that returns is the ID aka the primary field rather than the actual text that associated with it.

Do you have any ideas as to how I get round this

yes, use a query that inner joins on that field, then display not the ID, but the name from the other table.
