    Sharepoint documents open in readonly mode... i need to edit?

    Hello,

    I am developing an Access 2013 database and am in the final stages. I have an excel work book I need to open and be able to edit from the database via a command button. The excel workbook happens to reside on the company share point site. I can get it to open, problem is that it only opens in read only, and doesn't provide an option to change to edit... is there a way to code the command button to open the excel file in edit mode with or without a prompt to do so? I wanted to convert the spreadsheet to an access form, but its too complicated for me to do so and I am on a tight deadline.

    Is it possible that when I put the database on the share the problem will go away on its own? could I get that lucky?

      Placing the DB on the share will not help, as MS Access will either 1) not function the same or have the same features you want as a SharePoint database or 2) have the same issue you are having now, only that users will download the DB from SharePoint.

      Your problem sounds more like a Network/SharePoint permissions issue and not an MS Access problem.

      We can, however, help you access the Spreadsheet via an MS Access Form, but, again, if the permissions you have are for read only, you will face the same challenges you have right now.

          You may very well be running into a file sharing permissions problem. But I noticed you mentioned opening the spreadsheet from SharePoint. I believe there is an option when opening a file from SharePoint to open in edit mode vs read only. So, I'm curious how are you launching the Spreadsheet. Could you provide your code?

              @ Twinnyfo - that's what I found out, unfortunately I don't know who to ask to change it.

              its just a hyperlink attached to the button via the Hyperlink address in properties. But I got a work around for it and reduced the buttons on the form down to one. Found that if i just linked it to the share-point location, the user can then click the spreadsheet they need to open and it opens with the option for read only or edit.
