    Image transparency in Access reports during print preview

    Hi everyone! It's been a long couple of years at least since I've posted or contributed here, and I'm real happy to see that the forum is going strong. Hopefully I can start contributing again on at least a limited basis.

    Before that though...it's been a long time since I've been driven as crazy as I have been today. I have an image in a report with transparent parts. The transparency holds just fine in design, layout and report view, in the sense that if I overlay part of the transparent area onto say a blue rectangle, I'll see blue! Go to print preview though, and the transparency fails. All I see is the report background, not the part of the blue rectangle that I laid the transparent area over.

    I've looked at Stephen Lebans' website on this issue, I've looked at the MSDN forum and many other resources to no avail. There are reports of it having been fixed in Access 2007, but now it seems broken again in 2010. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

      2 silly questions if I may:
      Have you applied the latest updates?
      What format is the image in?

          I did apply the latest updates, which includes going from SP1 to SP2. I was finally able to accomplish what I needed by creating the transparent areas in Photoshop, saving the image in .PNG format, inserting into a Word document, and then cutting and pasting it from the Word document into the Access report's design view.

          I don't think editing in Photoshop is necessary (it happened to be convenient given the layout of my graphic), but it is necessary to make sure that the area one wants transparent is made transparent somehow, and that the image is saved as a PNG file. I could not make it work any other way.

              Wow, nice workaround!
              There doesn't seem to be an issue in Word nor Powerpoint with this, just in the way Access handles the image encoding.

              I was doing some reading on this, and as you noted, there was a fix in place for ACC2007 - carried in the service pack; then, as usual, MS broke something with the new release. I was hoping that the service packs would have fixed this again. :(
