Finding Unique Groupings Within a Table

I have a table that shows the software installed for each computer on our domain. The structure is:

    PCName SWName SWVersion

    PC1234 Adobe 8
    PC1234 MSWord 2007
    PC4321 Adobe 9
    PC4321 MSWord 2010

    , etc.

What I would like to do is figure out how many unique configurations I have.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

You need to define what you mean by unique configuration? Is what you have up there two unique configurations? If it is a duplicate configuration, does the removal of row 4 make it a unique configuration?

Yes, those would be two unique configurations. I'm looking for unique combinations of software installed.

Machine1 might have Adobe Acrobat 8, Reader 10 and Office 2007.
Machine2 might have Adobe Acrobat 8 and Office 2007.

Those would be two unique configurations.

      Hope that was clearer. Sorry.

What you'll want to do is create a crosstab query that pivots the software into columns.
