Why is my append query creating duplicate records?

I have an append query which takes data from a query and updates a table. However, instead of one record I get 3 or 4 of the same records dumped into the table. I might enter three records, press the append button, open the table up and 12 records are sitting in there (three sets of the same record ID number and contents).

Do I need to set a "where" condition and if so, how do I set a "where" condition?

Faith, before you ask what's wrong with a query you must realise we're going to need to see the query you're talking about. Please post the SQL so we can look at it for you.

You must also append an autonumber field from that table in the query, to a field in that table receiving the data, that don't allow duplicates (set it as such)

I'm sorry to contradict you Neelsfer, but that's actually quite wrong. As AutoNumber values are determined automatically, they can never be included in the list of fields to append. If ever they are, the query will fail.

However, I think I'm being redundent or bass ackwards - or both with my queries (?)

I have my queries to make a table out of the query that just made the symbols then append it to another table. I must be saving the data already and then appending the same stuff over and over again (with each record I enter). I have the control button to do this with each record added.

I should give this more thought and do some more reading.
