How do I add a specialized button to an Access main form to perform certain functions

I am a newbe to SQL and an amature with SQL. This is what I hope to accomplish with your help. We already have an Access front end and the backend is MS SQL database. I would like to add a button to the main page that will do a search for a last name and zip code. If I get a result I want to be able to choose from a drop down list the persons name and then send me to the form with all of that persons name populating the form. If no matches are found, I still want to proceed to the form with the person's last name and zipcode populating the form. Now on that form I want an "add customer" button with a popup that says, "Customer Added Successfully" with an OK button to close it. I not only need a script or a way to do this in design mode, but I need help navigating Access. Actually any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably the best advice at this point is to point you to the sample database that comes with Access, Northwind.mdb. Search your system for that file, it contains many examples, including exactly what you are asking for.

And please come back here with your questions as you work to understand and use the samples.
